Privacy Policy

Who we are

Dayone is run by Per Arneng, a private person in Sweden, who is responsible for your data under the EU’s data protection law (GDPR). You can reach us at dayonefilms.contact@gmail.com.

What we keep

Your promises, the days you keep or skip them, your check-ins and notes, and the answers you gave when you started. No AI reads any of it.

Where it lives

On your phone. If you sign in, a backup is stored with our database provider (Supabase, in the EU) so you can restore it on another phone. Signing in with Apple or Google only shares your email with us.

Reminders

Reminders are scheduled on your phone. Nothing about them goes to a server.

Usage stats

We use PostHog to see how the app is used: which screens are opened and how often promises are kept or skipped. Never the names of your promises, your notes or your name. If you’re signed in, these stats are linked to your account id so we can see how the app works over time; if you’re not, they’re tied only to a random id on your phone. You can turn this off under Settings › Share usage stats.

To show how many people have each trophy, your phone also sends which trophies it has earned, under a random id that isn’t linked to you or your account. Share usage stats turns this off too.

Subscriptions

Purchases go through the App Store. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. It gets your account id (or a random id if you’re not signed in) and your purchase history from Apple, never your payment details.

Bug reports and ideas

When you send a bug report or an idea from your profile, we keep what you wrote with your account id and the app version so we can follow up.

Technical data

When the app talks to our services, they see your IP address, like any website does. PostHog also records your phone model, iOS version, app version and language, and uses your IP address to estimate your country and city.

Why we’re allowed to use it

Your account, your backup and your subscription are needed to give you the service you signed up for (performing our contract with you). Usage stats, technical data and bug reports are used because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the app working and making it better; you can switch usage stats off at any time, and that stops them.

Who handles it for us

Only these services, each bound to use your data just to do their job for us:

When data goes to the US (RevenueCat), it’s protected by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the EU’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

Children

Dayone isn’t made for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us data, write to us and we’ll delete it.

What we never do

We don’t sell your data or show you ads, and we don’t share your data with anyone except the services needed to run the app.

Your rights

You can get a copy of your data, or delete your account and backup, at any time under Data controls in your profile. You also have the right to see, correct or delete what we hold about you, to limit or object to how we use it, and to take it with you. Write to us for any of these. If you think we’ve handled your data wrongly, you can complain to the data protection authority where you live.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app before it applies. The date below shows the latest version.
